Predicting Kidney Transplant Patients' Pre-Transplant Status

https://zohopublic.com/zohocampaigns/469179000017991004_2_1679873068200_zc-noimage.png

Over 100,000 patients are waiting for an organ transplant in the US. A recent paper "Predicting a kidney transplant patient’s pre-transplant functional status based on information from waitlist registration" describes a model to predict a patient’s pre-transplant functional status based on information known at the time of waitlist registration, co-authored by Ethan Mark (Ph.D. 2019), Dave GoldsmanPinar Keskinocak, and Joel Sokol, from Georgia Tech H. Milton Stewart School of ISyE and Brian Gurbaxani from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Posttransplant Survival of Split and Whole Liver Recipients

https://zohopublic.com/zohocampaigns/469179000017991004_2_1679873068200_zc-noimage.png

Split liver transplantation, where a single donor liver is divided for transplantation to 2 recipients, has the potential to increase the availability of size-matched livers for pediatric candidates and expand the supply of donor organs available for adult candidates. The findings of a research study, published in a paper titled "Split or whole liver transplantation? Utilization and posttransplant survival", highlight the potential benefits of split liver transplantation in effectively increasing the scarce organ supply and reducing patient wait times. April Zhuoting Yu (Ph.D. 2023), coauthored this paper with Professor Pinar Keskinocak from the Georgia Tech H. Milton Stewart School of ISyEDr. Joseph F Magliocca and Dr. Rene Romero from Emory University School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, and Professor Joel Sokol from the Georgia Tech H. Milton Stewart School of ISyE.

https://zohopublic.com/zohocampaigns/469179000017991004_2_1679873068200_zc-noimage.png

Guinea worm (GW) disease (or dracunculiasis) is currently transmitted among dogs in Chad, which presents risks for the human population. In "Evaluating the Effectiveness of Potential Interventions for Guinea Worm Disease in Dogs in Chad Using Simulations," the co-authors studied how interventions implemented at different levels might reduce the spread of GW disease (geographically and over time) and what levels of interventions might accelerate elimination. This paper was co-authored by Yifan Wang (Ph.D. 2020) and Tyler Perini (Ph.D. 2021), Pinar Keskinocak and Hannah Smalley from Georgia Tech H. Milton Stewart School of ISyEJulie Swann from the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University, and Adam Weiss from the Carter Center’s Guinea Worm Eradication Program
