Introducing New Faces at CHHS
|
|
Dr. Arthi Rao, Associate Director at CHHS and Senior Research Scientist in Georgia Tech’s School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, leads the Health and Humanitarian Supply Chain Management certificate, CHHS’s research initiatives, and the Health and Wellbeing of People and Communities Initiative. Her work focuses on social determinants of health, healthcare access, and spatial methods, collaborating across disciplines to create healthier, more resilient communities. Dr. Akane Fujimoto joined CHHS and ISyE as a Research Engineer in January 2025. Before returning to ISyE, Dr. Fujimoto earned her PhD in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2024. Her research focuses on applying modeling and analytics to enhance decision-making in public health and healthcare systems. She aims to analyze and develop strategies that are effective, efficient, and equitable, with interests spanning infectious and non-infectious disease modeling, resource allocation, inventory management, and health equity. Mackenzie Czerner joins CHHS as a student assistant and is a George Fellow master’s student pursuing a Health Systems degree through the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. She recently completed her undergraduate degree at Georgia Tech, earning a BSBA concentrated in Information Technology Management with minors in Biology and Computer Science. As a George Fellow, Mackenzie is eager to contribute to innovation in the healthcare sector and intends to pursue a career in healthcare consulting or hospital administration.

Michael Mao joined CHHS in August 2024 as a student assistant, supporting a variety of tasks across the center. He is currently a second-year Industrial and Systems Engineering student at Georgia Tech, concentrating in data analytics. Michael brings his enthusiasm for problem-solving and his growing expertise in analytics to CHHS, contributing to the center’s mission while gaining hands-on experience in applying data-driven approaches to challenges within the center.

Tech Ready Grant to Advance Healthcare Inventory Management
|
|
Dr. Akane Fujimoto has been awarded a Tech Ready Grant from the Office of Technology Licensing to advance TRUST (Tool for Resource Usage and Supply Tracking), a decision-support platform that helps healthcare organizations manage inventory and mitigate risks during both routine operations and disruption events, such as the IV fluid shortages following Hurricane Helene. The grant will support the development of enhanced forecasting and scenario analysis features, user interface improvements, and expanded opportunities for student researcher involvement.

Network Analysis of Maternal Transport in Georgia
|
|
PhD student Jingyu Li, with Dr. Stephanie Radke and Dr. Lauren N. Steimle, published a study in BMC Health Services Research on maternal transport in Georgia. Analyzing 774,000 births from 2017 to 2022, they found most transfers stayed within perinatal regions, but 17% crossed boundaries due to proximity or system ties, highlighting gaps in coordinated maternal care.

Shaping the Future of AI in HEOR with ELEVATE-GenAI
|
|
The ISPOR Working Group on Generative AI has published ELEVATE-GenAI, the first reporting framework for large language models in Health Economics and Outcomes Research. Among the contributors is Dr. Turgay Ayer, whose involvement helped shape guidance across 10 key domains, from transparency to reproducibility. The framework has also been officially indexed by the EQUATOR Network, reinforcing its global significance.

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, Dr. Hui Cai, Professor in the School of Architecture and Executive Director of the SimTigrate Design Center, will share insights on how hospital layouts and design features influence nurses’ hand hygiene compliance, a critical factor in reducing hospital-acquired infections.
